Last winter I went to Grand Cayman for a week of incredible diving and sunsets. I've only just gone through the photos... You see, that was a problem I always had as a self-employed photographer. I'd work my tail off for my clients and finally save up enough money to take a trip somewhere amazing where I [...]
I’ve been really touched by the positive response I’ve had to a misquotation in the Winnetka Current. Please take a moment to read my actual views on marriage and travel.
On November 21 an article about my DTour experience was published in The Winnetka Current, my local hometown paper. I was interviewed for the article and provided photographs about two weeks before it ran. For the most part, this was an informative piece about my experience with DoubleTree, my trip through Europe and highlights from the adventure. I have had several people contact me in regards to the write up and wanted to clarify a glaring misquote.
The second to last paragraph reads:
At 30-years-old, Winter is glad she didn’t wait until she was married to travel because then she wouldn’t have gone anywhere, she said.
I don’t know what I could have possibly said during my interview to have led the author of this piece to that ridiculous conclusion. It is so, extremely far off base from what I feel and believe about marriage and travel. I have worked far…

Very exciting things happening! Please follow A Lady Away for updates on the DTour competition and my upcoming European Adventure!
I have a confession: for the past two weeks I’ve been keeping a secret from you. A big secret, and I’m sorry I’m not sorry.

The past couple of weeks have been exciting. I've been lucky enough to book out of town work in truly beautiful locations offering the opportunity for one adventure after another. From driving around Northern Arizona for a week to networking in Toronto to family time in Michigan to experiencing history in Virginia and Maryland it's [...]
Before I opened my eyes this morning I threw up a little prayer and imagined myself swimming with whale sharks in Australia, admiring the Northern Lights in Iceland and summiting Aconcagua in Argentina. Then I rolled over, checked my phone and let out a sigh of disappointment. The Biggest Baddest Bucket List finalists were announced [...]
Tuesday night found me boarding a taxi at the tail end of a blizzard, shedding my winter coat, and double checking to see that I’d packed enough SPF 45. My destination, you wonder? No, not a beach somewhere exotic - not even a poolside in Florida. Two Turkish Airline flights later I found myself in a [...]
For the past three days, I've woken up on my own, minutes before my alarm. I'm taking this as a good sign. Though, I've learned, that just because my body is awake, it doesn't mean that my brain follows suit. Typically, from 6:15 to about 7am I sit and stare blankly. Even coffee isn't helping [...]
