Mista, mista! Get me outta here!

mistermisterladyDo you ever feel like that?

Not that you’re being held prisoner in a nursing home by a crazily mustached Ben Stiller, but simply that desperation of GET ME OUTTA HERE!

I feel that at least twice a month.

Ask my friends, my mom, my sisters… I frequently throw up my hands and announce, “I just need to get out of here, go do something.” But rarely do the stars (work, money, time) align to form a window for an escape. That’s why when they do and that window appears, you have to seize the opportunity. Just go.

Yesterday at about 3:30pm they aligned. Essie and I were on the road after traffic this morning.

We drove about 6 hours north to Charlevoix, Michigan and are staying at my family’s summer house. Okay, so maybe not ALL the stars aligned (let’s be honest, that money star rarely aligns properly,) but 2 out of 3 isn’t bad and I’ll never turn down a free place to stay. I love Charlevoix, I’ve been coming here my entire life, though this is my first time here by myself and I look forward to doing some exploration.

Essie was a little perplexed for most of the drive, but as soon as we turned on to Rt. 66 she sat up, sniffed and knew where we were headed. By the time we crossed the bridge in town, she was literally howling with excitement. Seems I’m not the only one who needed to get out of town for a while.

This is a small town that comes alive in the summer, but now it’s quiet and peaceful and covered with snow. Though despite the fact that it’s slow season here, I’m convinced that I can find some fun things to do this week We arrived in a gorgeous Michigan sunset and crunched around in the snow as we watched the colors reflect off the harbor, filling our lungs with that crisp, winter air.

And, of course, all of that time in the car made me think more about the Biggest Baddest Bucket List competition and how insanely passionate I am about the opportunity. If you haven’t done so already (and even if you have) I humbly ask you to vote for me to win this trip. Though I am really looking at it as more of a job application than anything else. Vote, vote, vote!!!

More from Charlevoix tomorrow!
