Editing of the Spoken Word

Add “mediocre audio editor” to my growing resume.

Val Haller of Val’s List, a website that introduces new music to those who are too busy to look for it themselves, asked me a while back to take raw footage of artist interviews and turn them into episode-type podcasts.  With one done and three more in the works, these mini-projects have tested my creativity in a new way while forcing me to become more familiar with my beloved MacBookPro (mainly Garage Band).  Editing audio is a lot like editing writing except you can’t see what is coming up in the next paragraph.  But, while it is time consuming and (sometimes) technically challenging, I finish these little interviews feeling like the artist and I are old friends.  Is that weird?

Wish I could take credit for this shot, but I can't.

The Greg Laswell podcast was completed several months ago and is available on iTunes for your listening enjoyment.  Of all of the artist interviews I’ve worked on for Val, I think that Greg and I would be great friends.  Not only does he has a lovely (if not a bit haunting) sound and thoughtful lyrics but he comes across as a humble and grateful man.  And he’s scruffy.  With a sense of humor.

I think I’m in love.
