When Mott 50 co-founder, Anne, approached me several months ago to do some photography work for their sun protective clothing line I jumped at the chance for three reasons. One, Anne is one of my oldest friends (we grew up down the street from one another) and I wanted to reconnect with her, seeing as she had just moved back to Chicago. Two, this was a whole new photography challenge for me and I am always looking for ways to diversify my portfolio – add fashion photographer to the list! And three, skin cancer is found on both sides of my family and my mom was always so diligent about lathering us up with sunscreen when we were little, despite the fact that I was one of those little brown children running around the beach in the summer. I was always so annoyed when she would call us out of the water to reapply, but now that I’m an adult, I thank her for it!

I’ve had so much fun working with Anne and her business partner Monique on shooting the Spring 2013 line! We did several “studio” style shoots for their website (definitely a new challenge for me, I hadn’t used studio lighting or backdrops since college) and an October morning on the beach to get some editorial images. I must admit, as a photographer it was SO MUCH FUN to work with professional models! My usual “models” are children or bridal parties or guests at an event and oftentimes the challenge is to grab the shot before the next moment happens. With models I have more control and they do exactly what you ask them to do!
Below are a few of my favorite images and Mott 50 pieces from the editorial shoot.
Medina Cowl Neck in Navy and White Stripe
The Melanie and Brela Open Cardigans, lots of color selections (my favorite is the Brela in Toast)
The Santa Cruz Swim Dress and Billy Hat
Their large selection of Infinity Scarves – the perfect all purpose cover-up!
Another color of the Hvar Boat Neck Dress
The Vis Island wrap skirt
So many great ways to protect your skin against harmful rays AND look great at the same time! You know where these pieces would be perfect? Traveling around the world and crossing off items on my Biggest, Baddest, Bucket List! These would be essential items in my suitcase! Have you voted for me? Please do! Voting closes in less than three weeks and I have a ways to go!
Loving the Stylish post – love having comfort when it comes to beach/swim wear – thanks for sharing:) Happy Thursday!
