I had a difficult decision to make a couple weeks ago: travel or camera?
For the first time in over a year I had some extra cash to my name and wrestled with what to do with it. Invest in a new camera body or hit the road on a mini-adventure – what to do? I was moments away from booking a seat to meet up with my globe-trotting sister in Rome when I stepped away from the computer and forced myself to reconsider. The truth is I’ve booked quite a bit of work this summer and I feel like this little photography business I’ve created for myself is on the verge of (dare I say it?) a career. So, in the wise words of my mother, I acted my age (27) and not my shoe size (8.5) and started, instead, to search for a new camera.
I wast tempted to pop for the D700, but that would surely have put me right back in the poor house where I started. Instead I went with a new D300 that I found on ebay and, so far, I’m extremely happy with my decision! My buddy, Henry, gladly agreed to be my D300’s first victim and sat for an impromptu mini-portrait yesterday.
I used a 50mm/1.4 prime lens (my favorite!) for these images.
On a side note, I thought I’d mention that Henry is the product of Blair and Chad from the beautiful wedding in Virginia. Oh, how life comes full circle!
