Charlevoix by iPhone

I’ve been in Charlevoix, MI since Monday.  My family has had property up here since my mom was little and I have countless memories of rolling down the hill with my cousin, breakfast picnics at Depot Beach, running with the dogs on the bluff and, of course, hundreds and hundreds of hours on the water.  My dad and brother just brought our new boat from the east coast and it is very much at home in the boat house.  I took my iPhone on a couple of cruises and took several pictures when we were underway.  All of the images were further processed in the app Camera+.

Aidan + Brendan

A few weeks ago I had the honor of capturing Aidan and Brendan’s wedding on a lovely Friday evening in June.  When I first sat down with the couple in October I knew that they would be extremely fun and easy to work with.  So many of my clients tell me that they want their wedding to be a party and I can say, with complete honesty, that Aidan and Brendan’s wedding was just that!  These two were tearing up the dance floor until midnight when, I’m told, the party loaded onto a school bus and continued the celebration at a bar.

Aidan, her bridesmaids, mom and brothers all got ready at her cousin’s condo in Lincoln Park before boarding a trolley bound for St. Andrew’s.  The church is only a few blocks from my apartment so I’d walked by it several times but had never been inside.  It was a great space to shoot in, with vaulted ceilings and a lovely, ornate alter.  The reception was held in the showroom at Ravenswood Event Center, a truly unique and exciting space to photograph, full of antique cars and vintage neon signs along the walls.  I loved how Aidan and Brendan worked with Gratitude-Heart Garden to use tall vases with submerged flowers and tall trees with hanging candles as center pieces.  The hanging votives along with the floating candles added to the glow from the neon signs to create an alsmost magical atmosphere.  The couple brought in Random Maxx, a fantastic band in from Milwaukee to keep the party going – and go it did!  From where I stood, this wedding looked like a total blast!  Friends and families came together to celebrate this special couple and I’m so happy I had a chance to capture the joy!

Brooke and John

A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of capturing the nuptials of Brooke and John at the Adler Planetarium.  I had so much fun working with the two of them during their engagement session last fall and was completely blown away (pun?) by their gorgeous wedding.  The wind wasn’t cooperating and the ceremony was moved indoors at the last minute but that certainly didn’t keep us from heading outside after the ceremony to take some dramatic shots making use of Brooke’s veil.  Brooke and John did a wonderful job of turing the Adler Planetarium into a truly magical venue complete with fantastic custom made lighting designs, the glow of hundreds of candles, the bright splashes of the flowers and the overlying theme of travel – something with which first drew the couple together.

I also had the honor of capturing John’s sister, Mary’s wedding in January and his other sister, Laura’s engagement portrait two years ago.
